Public Information

Like all of A.A., the primary purpose of members involved with public information service is to carry the A.A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers. Working together, members of local Public Information committees convey A.A. information to the general public, including the media. It is suggested that the P.I Chair have at least 2 years sobriety. All committee members need to be thoroughly familiar with A.A. program and able to provide consistent and accurate information about the fellowship. Experience in public relations is not essential, but recommended. An understanding of the Twelve Traditions, including a firm grasp of Anonymity Traditions, is most important. The P.I. chair attends all District functions and meetings and reports on upcoming events, or events in planning. The purpose of P.I. service work is to provide accurate A.A. information to the public when requested. P.I. committee visit schools, businesses, and community meetings for this purpose. They also serve as resources for our friends in the local media emphasizing our Traditions of anonymity, singleness of purpose and nonaffiliation, as well as offering A.A. public service announcements to radio and television stations.

Cooperation with the Professional Community

The C.P.C. Chair is suggested to have 2 years sobriety and expected to be at all District functions and meetings to report on what is happening in their committee as well as any upcoming activities or committee plans. Members of C.P.C committees provide information about A.A. to those who have contact with alcoholics through their profession. This group includes health care professionals, educators, and members of the clergy, lawyers, social workers, union leaders, and industrial managers, as well as those working in the field of alcoholism. Information is provided about where we are, what we are, what we can do, and what we cannot do. C.P.C. chair should plan to attend the Area 24 Spring and Fall Conference workshop on Cooperation with the Professional Community, or send a representative if they are not able to.
